This year we saw shades of yellow beginning to steal the spotlight from the super successful millennial pink. The S/S 2018 catwalks was flooded with yellow, ranging from softer shades to more vivid hues. “Yellow has increased its presence across all market levels, holding its highest penetration within trend-led retailers in both the UK and US at over 3.5% of the colour assortment. This is followed by luxury retailers with over 2%”, says Sara Gaspar, Senior Data Analyst at WGSN.
Yellow is the colour that captures our attention more than any other colour. It is dubbed as a joyous, radiant and an optimistic colour. It stimulates mental activity, creativity and generates muscle energy as its deep, rich tones tap into the emotional response by simulating the effect of sunset/ sunrise. Yellow is a bright, sophisticated, and gender-friendly shade which will lead as a top colour as we advance into 2019.
